Volunteer Opportunities • Animal Care of Animals & Adoption Assistance
The goal of animal care volunteers is to assist in the care and adoption of the animals sheltered at Multnomah County Animal Services. Your assistance helps to make the animals stay here more comfortable. Volunteers take dogs out to play in exercise yards, socialize cats and puppies, help to clean kennels and the cattery, and encourage adoptions by showing animals to prospective adopters. Volunteers also help to answer visitors’ questions. Foster CareSome animals brought to the shelter are not quite ready for adoption, Multnomah County Animal Services relies on foster care volunteers to provide love and care to these animals. Foster volunteers open their home to kittens needing time to grow, cats and dogs that need a little extra attention, or animals recovering from an illness or injury. For more information on the Foster Care program, call the Volunteer Coordinator at 503-988-7387 x25255. Outreach ActivitiesAs ambassadors in the community, outreach volunteers educate the public about our services and programs. Often outreach volunteers take shelter animals to community events, television stations, and pet stores to encourage adoptions and license pets. Training is required. For more information contact the Volunteer Coordinator at 503-88-7387 x25255. Administrative Assistance Volunteers are needed to support staff with administrative assistance including clerical duties, telephone assistance, and organizational projects. Contact the Volunteer Coordinator for more information at 503-988-7387 x25255. Special ProjectsVolunteers can assist in a variety of special projects at Animal Services including picking up animal food donations, photographing shelter animals for the website and advertising, fundraising, and shelter maintenance. Projects are also available for groups of volunteers. Please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at 503-988-7387 x25255 for more information.
