Where the Money Goes

The tax provides an estimated $128 million each year to public schools, healthcare, senior services, and public safety. The chart above and the links below briefly describe where the money goes, and we also have more detailed information about county programs, services and clients served with the income tax funds. For detailed information about schools use of the income tax money, visit www.seacinfo.org.

Approximately $3 out of every $4 will go to public schools and will be divided equally, on a per-pupil basis (using the State's weighted average daily membership, or ADMw formula), to all county school districts. The money will be used to help ensure a full school year, keep down class size and other classroom uses.

The $16 million for public safety will prevent the layoff of Sheriff’s deputies and the early release of prisoners from County jails. It also will help restore the County’s ability to prosecute car theft, identity theft, shoplifting and other types of cases.

The $16 million for health and human services will restore some services to the most vulnerable elderly, disabled and mentally ill residents that have been reduced or threatened in recent years because of state budget cuts.
